Alya is an Indonesian multidisciplinary artist currently based in London after graduating from University for the Creative Arts where she studied film and digital art. In her practice, she explores the combination of traditional and digital art where she predominantly experiments with watercolour paintings, interactive installations, augmented reality, and moving image. Through her artworks, she investigates the visible and invisible spaces of human’s complexity, displaying the fragile and intricate parts of being an imperfect human. Her works delve into the melancholy feeling and vulnerability of emotional wounds that are oftentimes hidden.
The process of creating art becomes a deep process of delving into her mind and navigating the intricate layers of her inner world where she finally able to see her visceral wounds and understand them better. She hopes that her art can offer people the same experience that art has given her: a safe space for people to be vulnerable with their difficult emotions and to question the deeper meaning of being human.
